Then they'd better make it a profession. One module, one rig and a couple of skills are not a profession - it's some safe way to get lazy ISK with monkey alt.
By that logic, a lot of professions, ie. mining, trade, industry, and science, aren't really professions but just lazy people making isk.
As for myself, I've been spending quite a lot of time recently ratting in roid belts of a few .5 and .4 systems. I've come across across belts that players have just left wrecks behind, with some of the proposed changes in this thread, I'd have to aggro the person who left them just so I can get the salvage? Also, comming upon corp/solo mining ops with upteen number of wrecks sitting around them (of course I ask if they intend to salvage, before I start in on them) would require me aggro them or their entire corp just for the salvage.
The timer suggestion isn't all bad, but it would make what I'm doing right now much less profitable, considering the time I'd have to wait around to salvage the wrecks, or just let em go to waste.
Talking about the risks is kinda absurd. Mission runners in high sec (yes, I'm one of them occassionaly) have zero risk unless they're unprepared or absentmineded. Now we have people asking for salvagers to take on "more" risk without any gain in the reward.

Originally by: Estephania All ISK in Eve originally comes from empty space, be it spawned roids, belt rats or missions rats. It was all spawned by the game. The point is - missions are the only way for a "small guy" to earn decent ISK without investing into an army of alts or being extremely lucky with the lottery some time ago. If you think missions are risk free and mission-runners are swimming in riches they earn without any risk, I pointed you to activities which are even more risk-less, more profitable and don't even require you to be logged on.
Though that doesn't mean mishs aren't "risk free" and profitable, just that other activities are more so.

No, people are "outraged" that highsec mission runners are actually complaining about this topic, when in all honesty we have it pretty good. All I see are people who are anal about their profits and want game changes to maximize them.

Seriously - if CCP adds depth to salvaging and stop it from being monkey-alt profession I wouldn't mind if dedicated salvagers would salvage "my" wrecks. And, as I repeated many time, mission running is not the most profitable and risk-free profession. There are others totally risk free (in-game risk, I'm not talking about the risk of CCP nerfs, we all live with that) and much more profitable, but no one is talking about them or bringing them into the public spotlight.
First off, calling people who salvage "monkey-alts" isn't going to convince anyone of your opinions. This is my main, and I'm having a ball salvaging wrecks people don't want. As towards the other professions, reason people aren't talking about them here is because this thread isn't about them. Though you're making it kinda hard brining them up all the time.

I have to question how a 1 month old char is flying aroud in HACs/Recons, let alone paying for them. I'll just chalk it up to you refering to your main while posting with an alt.

Ares - I fail to see how your changes would add depth or make things more profitable. If anything it would just make things a whole lot harder on certain people. Probing out wrecks would make finding people in mishs/exloration sites that much easier, making it that much harder to operate in lowsec. Than making wrecks last longer/have timer will just add to the server load, which is bad for everyone.
Este - Unless they're complete idiots you'd never catch them anyway. They salvage a wreck and you start to engage, they warp out. You sacrifice mid to fit a scram and now you have to worry about getting into range to use it. Salvagers have to get within 5km to salvage a wreck they don't own, considering they can't tractor it. So fitting warp stabs wouldn't really cause to much probs with the decreased lock range. Thus negating your ability to stop them.
For everyone - Give it some time. The whole reason this is "big" right now is the price of salvage. When they start to drop so will these occurances.

Restrict the salvaging skill from trial accounts would prob stop that Queen. Though most people are telling new people to train salvage asap to make money, cause right now it can.
Also, can't mish runners just jump out and let aggro transfer to get rid of them?

The change to aggro rights came about mostly because of can theft. Mind you, it isn't the can itself the person owned, but the items inside. You could look at a wreck as a salvagable can.
When salvaging was first introduced, if a wreck had loot on it, the salvager was required to take it (thus getting aggro) before they could salvage. The change to this came about becuase of missioners not wanting to have to deal with the crappy loot and only wanting the salvage. Thus it was changed to not having to loot a wreck before salvaging, negating the possibility of a salvager getting agro.
